What is a Gumasta License?
A Gumasta License is a mandatory registration required under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act for any commercial establishment operating in the state. It serves as proof that your business is registered with the local municipal corporation (like BMC in Mumbai).
Whether you run a shop, office, hotel, restaurant, or any other commercial activity, obtaining a Gumasta License is the first step towards legal compliance.
Benefits of Obtaining a Gumasta License
- Legal Recognition: It provides legal status to your business, allowing you to operate without fear of penalties.
- Bank Account Opening: It is a primary document required by banks to open a current account in the business's name.
- Government Benefits: Registered businesses can avail of various state government schemes and subsidies.
- Tax Registration: It serves as proof of business for obtaining other registrations like GST.

The documents required depend on the type of business entity:

- Business Proof: Partnership Deed (for firms), Certificate of Incorporation (for companies).
