What is a Class 3 DSC?
A Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is the highest and most secure category of digital signature in India. It is issued by a licensed Certifying Authority (CA) after a rigorous identity verification process, often involving video recording.
Under the Information Technology Act, 2000, it holds the same legal validity as a handwritten signature and is admissible in court.
Where is Class 3 DSC Used?
- E-Tendering & E-Procurement: Mandatory for participating in government tenders and online auctions.
- MCA Filings: Required for company incorporation, annual returns, and director KYC.
- GST & Income Tax: For filing returns and verifying documents on the GST and Income Tax portals.
- Trademark & Patent: For e-filing of IPR applications.
- Foreign Trade: Essential for DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) and ICEGATE transactions.
Types of Class 3 DSC
Depending on the usage, you can choose from:
- Signing Only: Used purely for signing documents (PDFs, forms) to authenticate identity.
- Encryption Only: Used to encrypt data for secure transmission (e.g., tender documents).
- Combo (Signing + Encryption): The most versatile option, allowing both document signing and data encryption. Highly recommended for e-tendering.
Application Process
- Select Validity & Type: Choose between 1, 2, or 3 years validity and the type (Signing/Combo).
- Submit Details: Fill out the online application form with personal details.
- Upload Documents: Upload PAN, Aadhaar, and photo.
- Video Verification: Complete a short video recording to verify identity (paperless process).
- Download DSC: Once approved, the DSC is downloaded into a secure USB token (e.g., ePass, ProxKey).
Documents Required
- For Individuals: PAN Card, Aadhaar Card (or Voter ID/Passport), Passport-sized Photo, Email ID, and Mobile Number.
- For Organizations: In addition to the authorized signatory's documents, company proof (GST, Incorporation Certificate) and authorization letter are required.
Renewal of DSC
DSCs are valid for a fixed period (1-3 years). You must renew your DSC before it expires to continue using it. The renewal process is similar to a fresh application, requiring re-verification of identity.
