What is BEE Registration?
BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) registration is a mandatory process for manufacturers and importers of certain electrical appliances in India. It involves testing products for energy efficiency and assigning them a Star Rating (1 to 5 stars). A higher star rating indicates better energy efficiency.
The goal is to provide consumers with informed choices about energy savings and to reduce the overall energy consumption of the country.
Benefits of BEE Star Labeling
- Consumer Trust: Star ratings are a primary decision factor for Indian buyers.
- Market Compliance: Mandatory for selling regulated products like ACs and Refrigerators.
- Competitive Edge: Higher star-rated products attract more customers due to electricity savings.
- Government Tenders: Essential for supplying appliances to government departments.
- Brand Reputation: Demonstrates commitment to sustainability and quality.
Products Covered Under BEE
BEE registration is categorized into Mandatory and Voluntary schemes:
- Mandatory Products: Room Air Conditioners, Frost-Free Refrigerators, Tubular Fluorescent Lamps, Distribution Transformers, Color TVs, Electric Geysers, LED Lamps, etc.
- Voluntary Products: Ceiling Fans, Washing Machines, Computer Monitors, Microwave Ovens, Solar Water Heaters, etc.

- Labeling Fee: A small fee per label affixed on the product (payable periodically).
- Testing Charges: Paid directly to the lab, varying by product type.
Validity and Renewal
Validity: BEE registration is typically valid for 3 years.
